Empowering Teachers

A Quick Glance at Donald May

I have lived in Gwinnett County close to 20 years.  In those years my wife and I have had two beautiful daughters graduate from Gwinnett County Schools and progress on to complete their college degrees.  I currently have a granddaughter in the school system and another one not far behind her. My family and I worship at Christ the King Baptist Church in Dacula.   Gwinnett is my home!

Education and Career

I have two Bachelor of Science degrees one in Accounting and the other in Business Administration from Miles College. I also have a Master of Science degree in Accounting from Birmingham Southern College.

The Gwinnett County School Board has a budget of over $2 Billion it needs my strong financial background on the board.  During my professional career, I have progressed through several leadership roles including; Adjunct Business Instructor, Strategic Planning and Financial Manager to Controller. Serving in various business sectors over the course of my career has led me to my current role as a First Vice President with an Atlanta based bank doing work in the risk and finance arena.

With over 35 years of diversified experience in finance, operational effectiveness, accounting, information technology and data governance I have not only the knowledge, experience, and insight but also the temperament to be very successful as a Gwinnett County School Board member.

Service to the Public

In my years as a Gwinnett County resident, I have strived to shape the minds of our youth through my volunteer activities.  I was a youth football coach for over 15 years serving both at Collins Hill Park and AG Gaston’s Boys Club.  I tried to use sports not only as a vehicle to keep our youth occupied in a worthwhile activity but also as a means of educating them on various life skills such as persistence and discipline.

I served many years as a mentor for the ‘Leaders of Tomorrow’ youth program, and I am currently a mentor for the Gwinnett County School System’s Community Based Mentoring.  Fulfilling my service to the public in a more corporate role I previously served on the Board for Gwinnett County’s Coalition for Health and Human Services and the Gwinnett County Salvation Army’s Advisory Board.
